Aditya Homoeopathic Hospital- World's first homeopathic hospital admitting emergency, acute & life threatening cases

One weekend in October 2012, I was invited by Dr Amarsinha Nikam , M.D. Homoeopath to experience the joy of homoeopathy at his 100 bed Aditya HomoeopathicHospital and Healing Centre , Pimpri, Pune. By the end of the day, I had to qualify his quote ‘the joy of homoeopathy’ with the word ‘sublime’. This visit led to a close friendship and deeper understanding and learning the great science and art of cure - homoeopathy. What followed was an internship of over 2 years where I had the opportunity to sit alongside Dr Nikam every Saturday-Sunday and takedown detailed case history and witness his approach to prescribing. Like a true guru, he gave it all. At the consultation table, he allowed his interns to suggest their remedy along with the reasons. He would then give us his choice and express this thought process and validate it by referring it to the materia medica. Here is a doctor who dared to start a homoeopathic hospital that not just treats emergencies but ‘Critical Emerg...

Why A Homeopath Ask So Many Questions?

Hey, This medicine helped me with a similar condition why don't you try it out too! We have all faced this. There are times when we are tempted to recommend a medicine that had helped us to another person. While this is a dangerous practice, it is fairly common practice in India and   other developing and third world countries and needs to be discouraged by all means. But then we have what is called OTC (Over The Counter) drugs that don't need a prescription can be easily purchased from a medical drug store. First, let us take the case of Urinary Tract Infection or UTI as it is commonly referred to.  A Google search will throw up commonly prescribe antibiotics and other drugs used to treat this condition. Your friendly neighbourhood chemist will quickly present your with few options when asked. So, why does a homeopath ask so many questions? To understand this we first got to understand  How does a Homeopath prescribe?  Let...

Allopathy or Homeopathy As Your Primary Medical Care?

The modern day conventional medicine system often referred to as ‘Allopathy’ is the most widely practised system in the world. The system has come a long way from its primitive form of being largely experimental to now a regulated and researched backed science. Its role in saving lives is beyond doubt, especially in critical emergencies. Allopathy is an excellent support care system or as someone termed it as ‘sick care system’.  On its flip side, even today with all its advanced research it still controls hypertension, controls diabetes, controls pain...with ever increasing the dosage. 'Control' or 'Management' being the operative word. It is not a curative science. Allopathy or mainstream medicines regularly help to counter, stall or slow down the disease process while the body tries and works out its own chemistry to regain it's original health. However, during the course of the treatment the organisms immunity is weakened and convalesce is often slow and e...

Space Medicine: Homeopathy and Interplanetary Travel

I nterplanetary travel may become a sudden reality sometime in the near future. Just as the early explorers who dared to journey across oceans and continents to discover new places we can foresee a lot of people traveling to explore the unknown frontier in search of another habitable planet. Few enterprising organization and individuals have already started accepting bookings for interplanetary travel. Studies conducted so far indicate that interplanetary travel lowers the immunity of humans to the point that we could fall prey to infections that will kill us. Research has shown that a special fly – Drosophila born and raised in space, which share many fundamentals of the immune system with mammals such as mice and human—had their immune system seriously weakened by microgravity in space, just as seen in astronauts traveling into space. Among astronauts space and extraterrestrial environment is known to have caused many symptoms/disorders. Disruption of gastrointes...

Fr. Britto Joseph S.J. - Empowering Health Care

Meet my first Guru who reignited my latent passion in nature consonant medicine. Fr. M. Britto Joseph s.j. a Jesuit Priest, belonging to the Madurai Province, is credited with evangelizing and proselytizing Naturopathy and Homoeopathy in India. Affordable and safe health-care has always been a need and it still continues to be a necessity for the majority of the population (middle-class and rural) in India, a country where  major share of one’s earning is spent on housing and food, savings are meager, often liquidated by medical and hospitalization expenses.  Families often end up in huge debt.   A country that enjoys a rich heritage medicine system in the form of Ayurveda and Naturopathy is today a victim of lifestyle diseases that is only burdening the existing inadequate health-care facilities in India.   It is against this background we can come to appreciate the value of Fr. Britto’s mission. Fr. Britto has done a yeoman service through his mis...

Mystic Woods - A project by Butterfly Conservatory Of Goa

It took us some time locating the place. The many locals and shops within few kilometers radius looked amused when we asked them for the address of Butterfly Park.  They never heard of it and probably couldn’t imagine that something like this exists in Goa. Southern Birdwing Butterfly - Largest in India The Butterfly Conservatory of Goa is an altruistic project initiated by wife-husband team – Dr. Jyoti Heblekar, a Homeopath  & Yashodan alias Rohit Heblekar  to ward off rampant cutting of hills surrounding their dwelling at Pisgal Priol, near  Ponda, Goa.  They wanted to retain the scenic view around so they decided to set-up the conservatory. We were captivated by the sheer natural un-sculpted greenery around.  The sound of rustling leaves, the burbling water flowing down narrow streams, the chirping birds, all orchestrated to make blissful music. As Rohit took us around  he asked us “Do you know why we don’t see any butterf...
